what this is

Calcutta AI Club is a community of people in Kolkata who build with AI and people who want to learn. It started as ten people around a cafe table comparing notes on what actually works. Now it's 300+ founders, operators, engineers, designers and students who show each other real work.

Demo sessions

Every few weeks the room meets. People demo things they actually built, the room gives honest feedback.

Co-learning

Weekly co-learning sessions where members learn tools by discussing and using them.

Build sprints

Small teams, 3 hours, something rough that works by the end. The club's software was built at one.

Sahil
Sahil
The brake pedal.

Sahil works in his family's export business for a living. Somewhere between the invoices and the follow-ups he realised AI could do half of it, and things escalated from there. The club started when he had one coffee with Swarnim and could not stop thinking about it. Since then his main job has been making things grow slightly slower than Swarnim wants. Believes a sharp room of ten beats a loud room of hundred.

Swarnim
Swarnim
The accelerator.

Swarnim runs ChurroTech, a software agency that helps small businesses automate the boring parts, and Calcutta Run Club on weekend mornings. He was the other half of that coffee, and had said yes before the cup was finished. Since then his main job has been trying to make the club grow slightly faster than Sahil allows. Already knew how to get a room of strangers talking, which turned out to be most of the work.

Between the two of them, the club averages out to exactly one sensible founder.

Games

Every session ends with a game on the big screen. Wheel of Fortune plays as a room: a code on the screen, a phone in every hand.
